It’s battle of the touch screens, it’s an old refrain, one that we will no doubt continue to hear as handset manufacturer battle it out for the smart phone top spot.  Hot on the heels from the LG Arena vs Samsung Tocco Ultra S8300 battle, here’s the latest grudge map, Samsung’s i8910 Omnia HD verses our favourite Arena.

LG Arena - 3 inch TFT touchscreen and S-Class UI

Omnia HD - 3.7inch OLED touchscreen, acceloremator and proximity server.

LG Arena - Audio player, FM radio, 3.5mm audio output jack

Omnia HD - DvX/Xvid/WMV/MP4 audio and video player, 3.5mm audio output jack

Internal memory

LG Arena - 8 GB internal memory

Omnia HD - 8 or 16 GB internal memory

The Omnia is a superior media phone with a better audio player and camera.  The Samsung Omnia has more potential internal memory as it can be upgraded to 16GB whereas 8GB is the highest level of memory available on the LG Arena.

The Samsung Omnia is slighter larger than the LG Arena and weighs more. However the Omnia has a much bigger screen than the LG Arena.

The LG Arena has superior HSDPA and Wi-Fi, meaning over all internet connectivity is better on the LG Arena.

Although the Omnia HD beats the LG Arena in certain areas it is no means a clear victory for the Omnia HD. The LG Arena still is superior to the Omnia in certain ways, most noticeably its design which (in my opinion) is superior to the Omnia. The only area where the Omnia truly tounces the Arena is with its camera. However, the camera is not often a priority for all mobile phone users and although the Arena can’t match the Omnia HD in terms of its megapixels, 5 megapixels is still an impressive amount for the Arena to have.

LG Arena Vs Samsung Tocco Ultra

March 11th, 2009

Mobile phone comparison site Omio has done a comparison of two killer smartphones our favourite the LG Arena and the Samsung Tocco Ultra.

Its a pretty tight race. The LG Arena is smaller, lighter and slimmer than the Tocco. However the Tocco is a slider, so is by default a bulkier phone. Take away the slider and it would be one of the slimmest handsets out there.

Even though the Arena is a smaller handset its screen is far bigger (3″ vs 2.8″) and it trounces the Tocco’s 240 x 400 pixel display with a massive 480×800 WVGA .

The Tocco has a superior battery life and talk time than the LG Arena. But the LG Arena has that famous S-Class UI which must drink up battery like a camel.

There seems to be a running theme with the Arena and the Tocco. The Arena is far more powerful evinced by the 8GB solid state hard drive. The Tocco has a pitiful 80MB of internal memory.

The Arena has the S-Class UI while the Tocco has a slide out keyboard which is actually a selling point for all those late adopters to touch screens. The Arena comes with a 5 megapixel camera while the Tocco comes with a huge 8 megapixel camera with flash unlike the Arena.

Undoubtedly they are both excellent phones, but I think the Arena just tips the balance what with its smaller size, larger screen, superior resolution and S-Class UI. My money’s on the Arena as the one to buy.
